Newspaper Department Vacancy : Closing date 19th January 2012

An opportunity has arisen to develop a role within our busy newspaper department. It will be a full-time position, based at our Head Office in Birkenhead. Salary will be dependent upon experience and ability.

Brief Description:
To assist and add value to the expanding Newspaper Operations Department. The successful applicant will assist in the development of practices and processes to efficiently handle the increasing workload of the department. This will involve but not be limited to management of set procedures, liaison with field personnel and third party suppliers, management, transfer and manipulation of data, general administration & record keeping.

The applicant will be expected to contribute towards developing and adding value to existing processes and systems while also seeking more appropriate/efficient solutions to challenges that the department may face.

Required Skills:
Computer literacy
An ability to communicate effectively at all levels - in person, over the phone or via email
Understanding of basic data principles
Confident use of Microsoft Excel/Microsoft Access
Accuracy and attention to detail

Preferred Skills:
Ability to query and create reports from data in a Microsoft Access (or similar) environment
Familiarity with digital mapping software

Previous Experience:
Knowledge of the workings of a free newspaper distribution department or similar would be an asset.
Experience of working with address and postcode level data and management of a large field structure would also be preferable.
