royal-mail-d2dThe news that the Royal Mail is on the verge of yet another strike is extremely disappointing.

In common with most companies in the door drop marketing industry, we rely on the Royal Mail’s Door-to-Door service as it enables our clients to use the daily delivery service provided by the 75,000 postmen and women around the country.

The service works extremely well on a day to day basis, providing an effective channel for local businesses to advertise their wares.

When that service is disrupted, however, the entire industry is tainted by the militant actions of a minority - with potentially devastating consequences.

With door drop campaigns of a highly complex nature, contracts are usually booked in months in advance. A considerable amount of planning is put into each and every door drop. If strikes go ahead, such campaigns run the risk of severe disruption - and advertisers, given a bad experience, may be lost to the industry for good.

Not only that, the strike threat creates an atmosphere of uncertainty for the business community and advertisers that is hardly helpful given the current climate.

For our part, we sincerely hope that strike action does not happen. We work closely with RM-D2D on many projects and they are good for our industry. Having said that, we urge clients hoping to use RM-D2D this summer to have robust contingency plans in place, and I’d be happy to advise on the best way to do this.
