Here’s a press release we issued today:

Door drop marketing company LinkDirect has reported a 60% increase in enquiries as businesses affected by the postal strikes look for alternative ways to reach customers.

The Birkenhead-based company use their own national network of distributors to deliver customers’ promotional items and are therefore unaffected by the current ongoing dispute at the Royal Mail.

The Communication Workers’ Union this week reported that the summer of strikes - in protest at management modernisation plans - has left a backlog of 25 million letters and parcels, although the Royal Mail maintains the figure is closer to nine million.

With union recently began a ballot of its 120,000 members that could see a national strike take place next month.

Volume of business at the Royal Mail has already suffered a 10% year-on-year drop and Chris Roxburgh, Managing Director of LinkDirect, says there is a direct link between dissatisfied Royal Mail customers and the sharp increase in unaddressed mail business his company has recently seen.

“We’ve seen a 60% uplift in enquiries over the past fortnight alone, and we know this is due to the postal strikes because people are mentioning this on their enquiry form.

“With the threat of a national strike next month, we are getting the sense that many businesses have simply had enough and are no longer prepared to trust what has increasingly proved itself to be a wholly unrealiable service.

“We’re now into autumn promotional period ahead of the Christmas sales and for many businesses this is the time that determines whether it’s going to be a good or bad year. Businesses cannot risk the possibility that their promotional materials could end up gathering dust in a depot somewhere.”

LinkDirect uses GPS technology and demographic targeting to ensure accuracy and accountability from its UK-wide network of distributors.
